Dr. V. Jeyaraj was born to Vethmuthu-Mary in a village called Vijayaachambadu, Triunelveli district on 23rd May 1950. He was graduated (Chem) from St. John’s College and post-graduated (Chem)from V.O.C. College, Tuticorin. He was post graduated (History) from S.V. University, Tirupati, Andhrapradesh. He got his Ph.D. from the Madras University. He is guiding Ph.D. Students in Heritage Conservation and two of his students have been awarded Ph.D. degrees. He worked as Lecturer in St. John’s College, Palayamkottai; worked as Post-graduate Chemistry teacher in Krishnaswamy Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam, Chennai. He worked as Curator in the department of museums in Erode, Vellore and Chennai both as general curator and conservation curator for over 30 years. He has visited many museums and related cultural institutions in London, Berlin, Paris, Melbourne and Singapore. He has published over 30 books in the field of heritage and many booklets, pamphlets etc. He was editor of many journals and books. After his retirement he has taken up the post of honourary Director, Hepzibah Institute of Heritage Conservation, Chennai. Besides teaching, researching the institute is doing consultancy services in the field of heritage Conservation.
