Preservation of Library Resources

The National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chennai is an autonomous Institute functioning under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (NITTTR), Government of India, with the mandate of improving the technical education, through curriculum and Instructional Material Development, Staff Development, Research and Extension Service.

 

Presently the Resource Centre of NITTTR is conducting an 8 weeks Advanced Certificate course on “Modern Library Practices” from 13th October to 07th December 2011. The course is designed for to develop appropriate competencies for Library Professionals and aims to facilitating e-access to IT based knowledge and streamlining library processes, promoting and enhancing reading habits among the users. Twenty two participants from various countries are attending the programme. The course is sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India under ITEC scheme.

 

Dr. V. Jeyaraj was one of the resource persons and he gave a power point presentation, group discussion and mock drill etc.,  on Preservation of Library Resources”  including disaster management on 23rd October 2011 from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm. During his lecture he highlighted preventive conservation, interventive conservation, restoration, various scientific information on damages to books, manuscripts and electronic resources, studying the environment,   disaster management etc. The participants were emphasised on involving them in the profession and having enough knowledge about the preservation of the library resources so that their services will be fruitful to the  library users.
